Texas Travel Counselors Conference and Travel Expo
The Services, Projects & Campaigns Section coordinates an annual cooperative training conference for TxDOT travel information center travel counselors, city and visitor information center staff, other state agency tourism partners, and other visitor service professionals who promote travel and tourism. The conference offers educational seminars, regional familiarization tours, and the opportunity to interact with other industry travel counselors. In conjunction with the conference, the host city presents the Texas Travel Expo which showcases attractions and cities around the state. The expo allows the tourism industry to share vital information for the upcoming summer travel season about points of interest, tourist services, and special events.
Tourism familiarization
- Media FAMs: Editorial staff may participate in local FAM tours to generate content for TxDOT collateral pieces, such as the Texas Highways magazine, Texas State Travel Guide, and Texas Highways Events Calendar.
- Trade FAMs: Travel counselors may participate in local FAM tours in order to become familiar with specific areas of the state.
Events at the travel information centers
The 12 Texas travel information centers welcome approximately two million visitors each year and host numerous public events to promote tourism and public safety awareness. Events are often held in partnership with convention and visitors bureaus and local attractions. Contact your nearest travel information center to discuss partnership opportunities!
