Helping others — it's a Texas thing
Drive like a Texan is about embracing what makes our state great — the way we look out for each other. On the road, this means driving with care, patience, and respect for everyone around us. By making thoughtful choices, we can all help keep each other safe. See how Texans lead by example.
The Texan Way
Whether you were born here or got here as fast as you could, Texans share a common bond in our commitment to doing the right thing and treating everyone with kindness and respect. Texas isn’t just where we’re from. It defines who we are and the pride we take in doing our best each day. It’s time to take these values on the road and show everyone what it means to Drive like a Texan.

Texans who value responsibility and community can set the standard for kindness, courtesy, and safety on the road. It just takes the simple action of staying calm and focused and making safety a priority.

For most of us, it’s not just about where we’re from — it’s about who we are. Texans carry themselves with a kind of pride you can spot a mile away.

About Drive like a Texan
Drive like a Texan, the newest safe driving initiative from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), is all about saving lives. By reminding everyone in Texas to show the same respect to others when they’re behind the wheel that’s routine when Texans meet face to face, we can change the behavior of drivers and make Texas roads safer for all.
