Stay cool, stay sober
3 MIN READ
Summer in Texas is here. It’s the season for tailgates, tubing, full days on the lake, backyard BBQs, and your car getting hot enough to fry an egg by noon. It’s a time for gathering with friends and family and making the most of late summer sunsets. Whether you’re on the highway headed out of town or just navigating weekend traffic, staying sober behind the wheel is the coolest move you can make all summer.
So, fill up the tank, enjoy the shade where you can find it, and learn about five ways driving like a Texan can keep you safe (and your summer plans rolling smoothly).
Tips for a safe summer on the road

1. Map out a plan
You wouldn’t host a cookout without a plan, so don’t head out without a sober ride lined up. Choose a designated driver (like your cousin who only drinks sweet tea) or schedule a ride-share.

2. Look out for one another
Texans look out for each other, whether friends and family, or strangers. Don’t let loved ones drive drunk or buzzed and remember everyone you share the road with.

3. Take a water break
Before you hit the road, especially after being out in the heat, make sure you’ve had plenty of water. Fill up your biggest, Texas-sized water bottle and be sure to sip throughout the day. Dehydration can cause fatigue and make you feel lightheaded, even if you haven’t had any alcohol.

4. Buckle up and slow down
It’s not like choosing between a staycation or epic adventure — buckling up is non-negotiable. Whether it’s a five-minute ride or a 50-mile road trip, make every ride a safe one.

5. Set the standard, Texas style
Show what it means to Drive like a Texan. Stay sober, stay sharp, and protect the people around you. Even when the heat turns up, Texans always stay cool.
The best summer memories start with everyone getting home safely. Every choice you make behind the wheel goes a long way to protect your friends, family, neighbors, and yourself. So, keep the grill hot, the drinks cold, and your ride sober. When we all do our part with a bit of planning ahead, we can make Texas roads safer for everyone.
