Drive like a Texan debuts at Austin’s Trail of Lights
Austin’s iconic Trail of Lights was the perfect sparkling backdrop for the launch of Drive like a Texan. The holidays are a time for connection, celebration, and enjoying special traditions, but it’s also one of the busiest times of the year for travel. In 2024, it was estimated that nearly 90% of holiday travelers drove to their destinations. With more neighbors on the road during the holiday season, it’s even more important to practice a little more patience and kindness, so we can all get to our destinations safely.
Drive like a Texan officially launched statewide with a press conference at Austin’s Trail of Lights, followed by five more holiday light shows across Texas.
Carrying Texas values with you
Attendees crafted personalized leather keepsakes and enjoyed limited-edition giveaways.

Sharing gratitude and kindness
Both on and off the road, a small act of kindness goes a long way. We invited attendees to write heartfelt letters to military and service members for the holidays.
Texas values shine bright all year
The holidays come and go, but the Lone Star spirit shines every day. When we Drive like a Texan, it shows who we are. Whether it’s letting someone merge with a friendly wave, slowing down in busy areas, or simply practicing patience, everyone can embody the true Texan spirit. Drive like a Texan — kind, courteous, and safe.

Save the rough riding for the rodeo
Texas rodeos celebrate skill, precision, and respect for the rules of the ride — and the same should go when we’re on the road. For most drivers in Texas, it’s not our first rodeo. Just like a champion rider knows when to rein it in on the saddle, Texas drivers can practice control and safety in the driver’s seat.
