SH 349: CR 140 in Midland to Spur 576 in Rankin
Permian Promise
Project description
The SH 349 project extends from CR 140 just south of Midland in Midland County to Spur 576 in Rankin in Upton County. The goal of this 50-mile project is to improve mobility and safety in the corridor. Crashes on SH 349 increased by 96 percent between 2015 and 2019.
The existing roadway is primarily two lanes with significant sections of added passing lanes. Proposed improvements to SH 349 would include widening to a four-lane divided highway with a wide center median. Median crossovers will promote safe access and circulation for residential properties and business operations. The efficient use of existing pavement and avoidance of existing corridor infrastructure development are being carefully considered during project development.
Public involvement
The purpose of public involvement is to share project information and updates, present proposed project information, and collect public input. TxDOT is committed to working closely with the public on this project. All input will be considered as TxDOT moves forward in developing a plan to enhance the safety of this corridor while preparing for future growth.
