SH 302: US 285 to FM 2019

Project description

The SH 302 project extends from US 285 in Reeves County to FM 2019 near Notrees in Ector County, Texas. The proposed project is located in Reeves, Loving, Winkler, and Ector counties, Texas. The goals of this 59-mile project are to improve mobility and safety in the corridor. The existing traffic along SH 302 between US 285 to SH 115 has doubled in volume between 2015 and 2019. Future traffic volumes along the corridor are expected to increase by 21 percent per year east of SH 115 to 28 percent per year west of SH 115. A nominal projected growth rate of 2% is anticipated between 2025 and 2045 from US 285 to FM 2019. Heavy vehicles make up approximately 22 percent of the existing traffic volume, which represents the high freight activity along the project corridor. There are no proposed improvements within the city limits of Mentone or Kermit.

The proposed SH 302 project consists of widening SH 302 from west of Mentone at US 285 (Reeves County) to east of Notrees at FM 2019 (Ector County) from a two-lane undivided highway consisting of 12-foot-wide travel lanes (one lane in each direction) with six-foot-wide outside shoulders to a four-lane divided highway consisting of 12-foot-wide travel lanes (two in each direction) with four-foot-wide inside and 10-foot-wide outside shoulders, in each direction.
