SH 176 East: FM 1788 to I-20 in Big Spring
Project Description
The SH 176 East project is located in Andrews, Martin, and Howard counties, beginning at FM 1788 in Andrews County and ending at I-20 in Howard County. TxDOT is proposing to expand SH 176 to improve safety and mobility along this heavily traveled corridor that serves as a critical transportation link for the energy sector. The rise in energy production has brought a large increase in truck traffic, impacting efficiency of travel and resulting in a significant increase in crashes.
TxDOT is conducting engineering and environmental studies to widen the existing two-lane undivided highway to a four-lane divided highway with overpasses at major intersections. In designing these improvements, TxDOT aims to enhance roadway safety and provide the infrastructure to support the growing transportation demand and economic opportunity in the Permian Basin.
