Employee engagement score

Measurement of staff satisfaction with TxDOT operations. The Survey of Employee Engagement focuses on the key drivers necessary to engage employees toward successfully fulfilling the vision and mission of TxDOT. The SEE results are provided to state legislators for use during the biennial legislative sessions.

The overall employee engagement score in 2024 improved from where it was in 2022.

The employee engagement score is based on results from the Survey of Employee Engagement administered by The University of Texas at Austin Institute for Organizational Excellence.

The SEE consists of 48 items used to assess how the organization functions. The items are on a 5-point scale from strongly disagree to strongly agree. A score above 350 indicates more employees are satisfied than are dissatisfied.

The overall score represents the comprehensive score for the organization. The score by category is an average of similar items grouped together. These categories capture the concepts most utilized by leadership and drive organization performance and engagement.

Education programs at TxDOT

In support of its strategic goal to “Value Our Employees,” TxDOT offers various education programs to employees who are interested in furthering their education.

The General Education Diploma (GED) Completion Program provides eligible TxDOT employees with the ability to obtain their State of Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency by passing four general education development tests. The program is free, self-paced, and 100% online in English or Spanish.

The Associate Degree Program provides employees the opportunity to pursue an associate degree from a partnering college. The program is 100% online and available to any TxDOT employee meeting eligibility requirements. TxDOT pays for all tuition, fees, materials, and textbooks.

The Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) provides opportunities for employees to pursue an associate’s, bachelor's, or graduate degree in a field of study that contributes to TxDOT’s mission of “Connecting you with Texas.” Through this program, TxDOT pays tuition and mandatory fees up to a predetermined maximum per semester.

These programs aim to help employees develop essential skills that can be used in their current position or for career advancement.
