Meteorological Evaluation Towers (MET)
A LIVE STREAM IS AVAILABLE FOR EACH TEXAS TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION MEETING. THE LINK IS POSTED BELOW 10 MINUTES BEFORE THE SCHEDULED START.
Unless otherwise noted on the agenda, meetings are held at 125 E. 11th St., Austin, Texas, in the Ric Williamson Hearing Room on the first floor. With the exception of closed executive sessions, all commission meetings are open to the public. Agendas will be posted eight days prior to the meeting.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have grown concerned about the increasing number of Meteorological Evaluation Towers (METs), which are used to evaluate locations for future wind turbines. Therefore, the 84th Texas Legislature added Transportation Code §21.071, which requires painting and marking of certain METs to make them more visible, in order to establish a safer flying environment. The code also requires TxDOT to provide a mechanism for any person who owns, operates or intends to erect a MET to notify TxDOT and to register it with us.
Owners and operators may visit the links below for registering and maintaining their MET information.
The addtional links below can be used to view a map of airports and METs in Texas and to download data about them for mapping and navigation.
