Meteorological evaluation towers (MET)

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have grown concerned about the increasing number of Meteorological Evaluation Towers (METs), which are used to evaluate locations for future wind turbines. Therefore, the 84th Texas Legislature added Transportation Code §21.071, which requires painting and marking of certain METs to make them more visible, in order to establish a safer flying environment. The code also requires TxDOT to provide a mechanism for any person who owns, operates or intends to erect a MET to notify TxDOT and to register it with us.

Owners and operators may visit the links below for registering and maintaining their MET information.
