Local Government Projects Overview
TxDOT defines a local government project as a transportation project in which at least one phase of project development is managed by a local government agency for which it is being reimbursed with federal or state funding. It may also include a locally-funded project managed by a local government on the state highway system.
Phases
The phases of project development that may be managed or performed by a local government may include:
- Environmental
- Design
- Right-of-way acquisition
- Utility relocation
- Construction
Each phase contains many individual steps, which may be unique to a specific project. Many phases are sequential while others can be performed concurrently.
Local Government Definition
The term local government includes:
- Municipalities
- Counties
- County and regional toll authorities
- Regional mobility authorities
- Metropolitan planning organizations
- Some private entities
Oversight
TxDOT maintains oversight responsibility for all activities performed by the local government.
