Summer Transportation Camps

Connecting Career Pathways Program

Transportation is a broad field with a variety of career opportunities, and early exposure and exploration benefit students as they plan for their future success. As part of Connecting Career Pathways (CCP), Summer Transportation Camps (STC) connect middle- and high-school students across Texas with subject-matter experts, industry professionals, and engaging, hands-on curriculum. By attending these camps, students develop skills in leadership, teamwork, and STEM, as well as a deeper awareness and understanding of various disciplines in transportation.

STCs are conducted throughout the state and highlight local needs, talent, and industry partnerships. Topics include safety, construction, logistics, and supply chains, and include modes of transportation from roadways to aviation. Students explore transportation careers through field trips and hands-on activities like bridge building, coding labs, and design competitions.

Summer Transportation Camp highlights

  • TxDOT is building bridges to an exciting future for Texas students! One way that students participate is through attending Summer Transportation Camps (STC), like this camp hosted by the University of North Texas (UNT) at Discovery Park. By tapping into students’ curiosity and showing how their talents apply to transportation jobs, CCP hopes to build a pipeline to prosperity for all Texans, one that saves dollars and makes cents!

  • Building the transportation industry’s future one Lego® brick at a time! High school students thrilled audiences at their Metro Center Design challenge showcase, a culminating event of the 2023 STC hosted by San Jacinto College (SJC). STCs are part of TxDOT’s CCP, an agency-wide initiative led by CIV. CCP programming helps create keys to future employability for elementary, middle and high-school students by helping them develop and hone creative, critical-thinking, and communications skills. Brick-by-brick, CCP helps connect young Texans to a prosperous future and moves all Texans forward.
