Project background
TxDOT is proposing to improve FM 917 from I-35W to south of BU 287P in Johnson County, Texas.
This area of FM 917 does not accommodate current demands on the roadway, nor does it meet current roadway design standards. Today, FM 917 consists of one lane in each direction with no separation, no bicyclist or pedestrian accommodations, and sharp curves, including two 90-degree curves.
The proposed project would reconstruct and widen FM 917. The project is 9.4 miles in length and improvements would realign and widen FM 917 from two lanes to an interim four lanes and an ultimate six-lane roadway.

A virtual public meeting with an in-person was held on Aug. 10, 2023.
A second virtual public meeting with an in-person option is scheduled for July 11, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at Alvarado Jr. High School.
