FM 2154 (Wellborn Road) widening

The Texas Department of Transportation in cooperation with the City of College Station and the Bryan/College Station Metropolitan Planning Organization (BCS MPO), is proposing improvements to FM 2154 (Wellborn Road) from SH 40 (William D. Fitch Parkway) to Greens Prairie Road in Brazos County, Texas

Goals

The goals of the project are to enhance safety, increase capacity for anticipated future traffic, and provide bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.

Existing roadway

The existing FM 2154 (Wellborn Road) between SH 40 (William D. Fitch Parkway) and Greens Prairie Road consists primarily of a two-lane undivided roadway, which widens to accommodate a center turn lane at various intersections along the corridor. The existing right of way width varies between 90 and 170 feet. Currently, there are no dedicated bicycle and pedestrian accommodations along the corridor.

Proposed roadway

The proposed FM 2154 would be widened to accommodate four lanes, two in each direction, separated by a raised median. At primary intersections, the raised median would taper to accommodate a dedicated left turn lane. Additional improvements include drainage enhancements and a wide sidewalk, otherwise known as a shared-use path along the east side of the roadway.

The proposed project would, subject to final design considerations, require additional right-of-way and potentially cause displacements.

Public involvement

TxDOT and the City of College Station are working closely with local stakeholders and the public to receive their input regarding project development. TxDOT is working to refine the design based on feedback from the community.

Public involvement and additional outreach

TxDOT has hosted one virtual public meeting and has participated in various additional outreach opportunities to discuss the project with the public and property owners.

TXDOT and the City of College Station plan to hold ongoing meetings with affected property owners throughout the project development process and expect a public meeting in 2024.
