US 183 from SH 29 to FM 963 Study
Williamson and Burnet Counties
TxDOT is conducting a schematic/environmental study of the US 183 Corridor, spanning from SH 29 in Williamson County to FM 963 in Burnet County. The 23.7-mile existing US 183 corridor passes through the City of Liberty Hill and the communities of Andice and Briggs. The purpose of the study is to:
- Improve safety and reduce the rate of traffic-related crashes and deaths
- Increase mobility and accessibility for all users and adjacent communities
- Address current and future growth along the corridor
- Consider environmental impacts
Study overview
Williamson County is the tenth-fastest growing county in the nation with 3-6% annual growth, while Burnet County’s population is growing 2-3% each year. With this immense growth, traffic demand, congestion and crash rates are increasing along the US 183 corridor.
The study will evaluate a four-lane urban freeway with frontage roads and interchanges in Williamson County and a four-lane rural divided highway in Burnet County, to improve safety and mobility. The study seeks to create a schematic design for the proposed alternative and obtain environmental clearance through the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) environmental review and approval process.
Get involved
The purpose of public involvement is to share study information and updates, present proposed schematics of the proposed project and alternatives, and collect input from the community. All input will be considered as TxDOT moves forward in developing a plan that will enhance the safety of this corridor while preparing for future growth. TxDOT is committed to working closely with stakeholders and the community on this project to ensure the public can comment, voice concerns, and ask questions.
