Parmer Lane (FM 734) Corridor Study

CAMPO Project Readiness Program

The CAMPO Project Readiness Program is a partnership between the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to plan for the future transportation needs on state-owned (on-system) highways throughout the six-county CAMPO region. In 2021, CAMPO’s Transportation Policy Board adopted 10 regional corridors to study and prepare for future multimodal transportation improvement projects. These corridors connect significant and growing residential, employment, and activity centers throughout the region, experience higher‐than‐average crash rates, and complement existing studies and projects throughout the region.

Background

CAMPO and TxDOT are working together to identify, evaluate, and recommend potential improvements for Parmer Lane (FM 734) from MoPac (Loop 1) in North Austin to Whitestone Boulevard (RM 1431) in Cedar Park.

Current conditions

Parmer Lane (FM 734) serves as a critical arterial route in the Austin Metropolitan Area. As a six-lane divided urban highway from SL 1 (Mopac) to SH 45N and a four-lane divided urban highway from SH 45N to RM 1431 in Williamson County, it serves tens of thousands of trips each day to and from offices, residences, schools, retail centers, and various other destinations. However, increasing demand and congestion necessitates an evaluation of potential improvement alternatives.

Public involvement

Given the vital role of Parmer Lane (FM 734) in serving the communities of North Austin, Cedar Park, and beyond, input from the public regarding the needs, challenges and vision for the corridor’s future is highly valued.

The preliminary public involvement schedule includes three open houses, December 2023, Summer 2024 and another during Fall 2024, as well as ongoing outreach and opportunities to submit feedback. This schedule is subject to change. This feedback will help inform the study's goal of identifying the preferred alternative for increasing capacity along this crucial corridor.
