I-635 LBJ (East Section) will consist of full re-construction and widening of I-635 from US 75 to I-30, including the I-30 Interchange, at a length of approximately 11 miles. The general purpose lanes will be widened from 8 to 10 lanes and the existing tolled managed lanes will be grandfathered and rebuilt, and they will remain as managed lanes. When complete, there will be a total of 10 general purpose lanes and two tolled managed lanes. The project also will feature construction of continuous frontage roads and numerous intersection improvements.
The project originally received a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) in January 2003. The revised design schematic and environmental re-evaluation were approved in July 2017 and April 2017, respectively. The project is now known as I-635 LBJ East. Construction is expected to begin at the end of 2019 at a cost of $1.6 billion. Visit Keep It Moving Dallas and the Alternative Delivery projects site for additional information.
