Maintenance Division Director

James Stevenson, P.E., serves as director of Maintenance.

Stevenson joined TxDOT in April 1999 after serving for four years in the U.S. Army. He started as a construction inspector in the El Paso West area office where he worked on several projects. Stevenson moved to District Design in August 2002 and, in March 2004, he earned his P.E. license. In August 2005, Stevenson began working in Maintenance Management as the assistant maintenance engineer. He was hired as the district maintenance engineer in June 2011.

In April 2016, Stevenson moved to the Yoakum District as the director of operations where he oversaw maintenance and traffic operations for eleven counties in South Texas, including the response to Hurricane Harvey. Stevenson became the deputy director of the Maintenance Division in February 2018, where he assisted in directing and managing all activities of the Maintenance Division including maintenance operations, field engineering, vegetation management and the safety rest areas. On Sept. 1, 2020, Stevenson was named Maintenance Division director.

Stevenson received his civil engineering degree from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1994.
