Notice Affording an Opportunity for a Public Meeting - US 285 in Fort Stockton

Purpose:

TxDOT is offering the opportunity to request a public hearing covering the social, economic and environmental effects of the proposed widening of approximately 1.2 miles of US 285, from 0.6 mile north of I-10 to 1.8 miles north of I-10 in Fort Stockton, Pecos County.

Any interested citizen may request a public hearing covering the social, economic and environmental effects of the proposed location and design for this project. Requests for a public hearing must be submitted in writing on or before Jan. 20, 2016, to the TxDOT District Office, Gary J. Law, P.E., Director of TP&D, 3901 East US Highway 80, Odessa, Texas 79761.

Description:

The proposed project would widen this section of US 285 from two to five lanes with two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, a 16-foot center turn lane, and 4-foot outside shoulders. No right-of-way (ROW) acquisition is anticipated for this project. The purpose of the proposed project is to provide additional lanes to facilitate mixed traffic use and turning movements. The proposed improvements are needed to address mixed traffic use, as well as increased turning movements, caused by new development of state and county offices, as well as increased oil and gas activity.

The existing facility consists of two travel lanes, each 12 feet wide in each direction with 10-foot outside shoulders. The existing ROW width is 120 feet.

The environmental review, consultation and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by xDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated Dec. 16, 2014, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
