When:
Tuesday, June 27, 2017
4 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Purpose:
TxDOT is hosting an open house regarding the upgrade of US 59 (future I-69) to meet interstate standards from south of FM 2021 to north of US 59/SL 287 in Angelina County. This event is being held to display conceptual layouts, explain where TxDOT is within the project development process, answer questions and gather local input. The open house will be held in a come-and-go format where you can visit with TxDOT staff one-on-one regarding the project.
Description:
The proposed project would involve the construction of frontage roads and would be designed to meet interstate standards for potential future designation as I-69. The proposed project would provide a controlled access freeway section, which means there will not be direct access to the main lanes. Access to the main lanes is allowed via entrance and exit ramps.
The proposed project would:
- Enhance safety and improve mobility along US 59;
- Provide a more efficient hurricane evacuation route; and
- Provide system connectivity to I-69, which is a 1,600 mile national highway connecting Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. I-69 also provides access to inland ports and sea ports along the gulf coast.
Right of way and/or displacements are still being determined. Construction funding for this project was allocated in the March 2017 Unified Transportation Program with a proposed Summer 2022 contract bid date.
