This project is dedicated to improving mobility and providing system connectivity along US 59 between State Loop (SL) 287 and Farm to Market (FM) 2021 in Redland. The proposed project would involve the construction of frontage roads and reconstruction of the US 59 main lanes to meet interstate standards for potential future designation as I-69.

The Lufkin District hosted an open house on June 27, 2017, to display a conceptual layout and gather public input on the proposed project. Over the last year, the Lufkin District has used that feedback to develop the schematic and conduct environmental studies.

On December 13, 2018, the Lufkin District will hold a public hearing at the Lufkin Zoo Education Center to present the results of our work and receive public comments on the proposed project.

Next Steps

  • Survey work, schematic and environmental studies began in summer 2017 and approval is anticipated winter 2018
  • After approval of the schematic and environmental studies, TxDOT will complete the right of way (ROW) map and parcel descriptions, so the ROW process can begin in Spring 2019
  • ROW acquisitions are anticipated to take approximately two years to complete. Once ROW is acquired, utility adjustments would begin and are expected to be completed in spring 2022
  • Construction funding was allocated in the March 2017 Unified Transportation Program with a proposed summer 2022 contract bid date; construction of the project is anticipated to be complete in summer 2025
