This project is dedicated to improving mobility and providing system connectivity along US 59 between State Loop (SL) 287 and Farm to Market (FM) 2021 in Redland. The proposed project would involve the construction of frontage roads and would be designed to meet interstate standards for potential future designation as I-69.

In April 2017, TxDOT began development of the schematic and environmental studies. The Lufkin District hosted an open house on June 27, 2017, to display conceptual layouts and gather public input and comments on the proposed project. After the open house, TxDOT compiled the comments and feedback which was used to help guide the development of the schematic.

Next Steps

  • Survey work, schematic and environmental studies to begin summer 2017 and potential approval anticipated fall 2018
  • Right of way and/or displacements are still being determined; once schematic and environmental is approved, the right of way acquisition process is estimated to begin in early 2019
  • Right of way acquisitions and utility adjustments are expected to be completed in spring 2022
  • Construction funding was allocated in the March 2017 Unified Transportation Program with a proposed summer 2022 contract bid date
