The purpose of the public hearing is to gather public input on the proposed reconstruction and widening of FM 518 from SH 288 to SH 35 in Brazoria County, Texas.  Engineering displays and environmental documents will be available for viewing at 5:30 p.m. with the formal hearing starting at 6:30 p.m. Comments must be received on or before Wednesday, April 10, 2019, to be a part of the official public hearing record. 


While the stated project limits are from SH 288 to SH 35, the actual construction limits are from SH 288 to Halbert Drive/McLean Road. No improvements are proposed from Halbert Drive/McLean Road and SH 35. Within the construction limits, the existing roadway would be widened from a four-lane to a six travel lanes (three lanes in each direction). The inside travel lanes would be 12 feet in width and the outside travel lanes would be 15 feet in width. A raised median would be included and would vary between 14 and 18 feet. The proposed project would also covert the existing open ditch drainage system to a curb and gutter drainage system. In addition, outside pedestrian sidewalks are proposed. 

The proposed improvements would require approximately 25 acres of additional right of way (ROW). Residential and commercial displacements are anticipated to occur as a result of the proposed project. Relocation assistance is available for displaced persons and businesses. Information about the TxDOT Relocation Assistance Program, benefits and services for displacements, as well as information about the tentative schedules for ROW acquisition and construction can be obtained from the TxDOT Houston District Office at the address listed below.

Requests should be made at least five working days prior to the public meeting. Every reasonable effort will be made to accommodate these needs.

Memorandum of Understanding:

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried-out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 16, 2014, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
