Atlanta District Engineer
Rebecca Wells, P.E., is the district engineer for TxDOT's Atlanta District.
The district includes nine counties: Bowie, Camp, Cass, Harrison, Marion, Morris, Panola, Titus and Upshur.
Wells oversees planning, designing, building, operation and maintenance of the state transportation system for the district. She has served as the Atlanta District’s director of transportation operations since 2018.
She began her TxDOT career as a summer hire. Upon obtaining her degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University, she joined a private engineering firm for several years. She rejoined TxDOT in 2001.
As a young engineer, she spent time in design, advance planning, and construction. In 2006, she began her work in traffic operations where she spent much of her time focusing on system safety.
Wells is a member of the Council on System Safety and State Safety Task Force. She is also a member of several national research panels focusing on topics such as speed limits, the use of LED illumination on highways, and the balance of safety and mobility.
On Oct. 1, 2022, Wells became the district engineer in the Atlanta District.
