Loop 410 San Pedro improvement project

TxDOT is moving forward with a $156 million investment in safety and mobility improvements along I-410 in north-central San Antonio. The project addresses safety and operational concerns in a corridor that sees heavy traffic impacts and a high number of crashes.

The project covers a 4.3-mile section of I-410 from West Avenue to Broadway Street, and a 2.7-mile section of US 281 from I-410 to East Nakoma Drive. It falls within the City of San Antonio and the City of Castle Hills and is adjacent to the San Antonio International Airport.

The project also comes out of a multi-year planning process that included a feasibility study and public input to help shape the final design.

Between 2014 and 2018, the project area averaged 3.7 crashes per day. That's a higher rate than the statewide average for both interstates and U.S. highways. Traffic impacts are also expected to get worse over time.

Without improvements:

• Morning commutes in the corridor could double by 2045
• Evening commutes could take up to 4 times longer than they do today

To improve safety, seven ramps will be removed and replaced with new access points along the corridor. A number of intersection improvements are also planned to help traffic flow and improve safety.
