FM 1485 access management study from SH 242 to SL 494
TxDOT is conducting an access management study for the 6.5-mile segment of FM 1485 from State Highway (SH) 242 to State Loop (SL) 494 in Montgomery County. Within these limits, FM 1485 is a north-south corridor that has experienced increasing traffic due to area growth in residential and commercial development.
Current roadway conditions
The northern section of FM 1485 from SH 242 to Pine Brook Drive is a two-lane roadway; the middle section from Pine Brook Drive to Kidd Cemetery Road is a two-lane roadway with a continuous two-way left turn lane; and the southern section from Kidd Cemetery Road to SL 494 is a four-lane roadway with a continuous two-way left turn lane. The FM 1485 Study segment carries approximately 12,600 to 24,000 vehicles per day. The crash risk increases gradually from the northern to the southern. The southern section has a crash rate that is significantly higher than the statewide level for the similar type of farm-to-market roads.
Study purpose
The purpose of FM 1485 access management study is to provide vehicular access to land development in a manner that preserves the safety and efficiency of the transportation system. The FM 1485 study aims to identify short-, medium-, and long-term transportation improvements to improve safety and mobility, traffic flow, reduce motorist delay, and support existing and future development.
Benefits
The proposed improvements would:
- Improve safety through reduced crashes.
- Improve traffic operations by better planning how vehicles move through the corridor.
- Reduce congestion by improving travel time.
- Improve accessibility by enhancing multimodal connectivity.
- Preserve and enhance economic opportunities along the corridor.
Get involved
Public involvement is very important to study development. Virtual and in-person public meetings will be held in May 2023. Both meetings will include the same content.
