SH 19 Intersection Improvements
The TxDOT Bryan District is developing plans to improve various crossings along SH 19 from 4 miles south of FM 405 (near Sterling Chapel Road) to 3.6 miles north of SH 30 (near Louis Grant Road) in Walker County, Texas. The purpose of the project is to enhance safety along the corridor and improve traffic flow near the intersections.
The proposed improvements would reconfigure the existing crossovers to construct Reduced Conflict U-Turn (R-CUT) intersections with offset U-turns. Additionally, right turn lanes will be constructed at Trail Ridge Road, Morris Lane and Wood Farms Road. The length of the proposed project is approximately 1.5 miles, and no right-of-way acquisition is anticipated.
R-CUT intersections simplify decision-making for drivers and minimize the potential for higher severity crash types, such as T-bone accidents. These intersections allow left turns into intersecting side roads and eliminate left turns for vehicles exiting the side roads. Vehicles wanting to make a left from a side road would take a right and then utilize a U-turn offset from the intersection to change direction.
Construction is anticipated to begin in 2027.
