FM 1688 (Leonard Road) Widening

TxDOT Bryan District is developing plans to widen FM 1688 (Leonard Road) from SH 47 to FM 2818 (Harvey Mitchell Parkway) in Brazos County, Texas. The proposed improvements would enhance safety, reduce congestion, and improve mobility along the FM 1688 corridor.

The project is being developed in collaboration with the member agencies of the Bryan College Station Metropolitan Planning Organization (BCS MPO), under the 2022 Brazos County Transportation Road Improvement Program, to meet current and future traffic demand attributed to development growth in the area.

Proposed improvements

The existing FM 1688 is a two-lane roadway, one lane in each direction, with approximately 3-foot wide outside shoulders. There are currently no sidewalks or bicycle accommodations within the project limits.

Proposed FM 1688 improvements include the following:

  • Reconfiguring/widening the existing two-lane undivided roadway to improve traffic flow.
  • Providing pedestrian and bicycle accommodations.

Right of way acquisition is anticipated for this project. The proposed FM 1688 project is in the preliminary design phase which includes developing the geometric schematic design and conducting environmental studies. Construction is not anticipated to begin until 2031.
