RM 1826 Feasibility Study
Hays County is one of the fastest-growing counties in the country. This rapid growth has caused increased traffic demand and congestion on roadways within the county, leading to safety and mobility concerns along the RM 1826 corridor. As a result, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is performing a Feasibility Study to assess improvements to operational and safety conditions on a 7.7-mile segment of RM 1826 to meet future traffic demands, from the Travis/Hays County line to RM 150.
Current conditions
RM 1826 is a two-lane undivided roadway with turn lanes at various intersections. As more people and vehicles use this road, safety, and mobility concerns increase along the corridor. The goal of the Feasibility Study is to identify improvement concepts within the study limits. Understanding current and future conditions is crucial for prioritizing improvements and meeting growing traffic demands effectively.
Project development process
The project development process consists of the following four phases:
- Feasibility Study consisting of constraints analysis and development of improvement concepts (current study)
- Environmental study and schematic design
- Final design, acquisition of right of way, and utility adjustments
- Construction
Public involvement
The purpose of public involvement is to share study information and updates along with collecting input from the community. Public input is a highly valued and important part of creating improvements to address transportation needs. TxDOT is committed to working closely with the public to ensure that community members have the opportunity to comment, voice concerns, and ask questions.
The public involvement schedule included two stakeholder working group meetings held in August and December of 2023 and two individual stakeholder meetings in October 2023 and February 2024. Additional stakeholder working group meetings and individual stakeholder meetings will be scheduled in Spring 2024 along with a public meeting in Summer 2024. This ongoing public involvement schedule is subject to change.
