Notice and Opportunity to Comment

Public comment deadline All comments must be received on or before Monday, July 8, 2024.
Purpose TxDOT is proposing to widen US 285 to a four-lane divided highway from FM 1216 to SH 302 in Reeves County, Texas. This notice is affording an opportunity to comment as part of the environmental review process for this project.
Description

The proposed project would include widening approximately 18 miles of US 285 to a four-lane divided highway with two lanes in each direction, as well as both inside and outside shoulders. In addition, a new interchange is proposed at SH 302. The existing right-of-way (ROW) width ranges from approximately 130 – 250 feet, while the proposed ROW width would range from approximately 237 – 360 feet, with wider sections at interchanges. Improvements would also include a wide center median and/or barrier with median openings and turn lanes as needed.

The proposed project would, subject to final design considerations, require additional right of way and potentially displace no residences and four non-residential structures. Relocation assistance is available for displaced persons and businesses. Information about the TxDOT Relocation Assistance Program and services and benefits for those displaced and other affected property owners, as well as information about the tentative schedule for right-of-way acquisition and construction, can be obtained from the TxDOT district office by calling 432-498-4645.

Any environmental documentation or studies, maps and drawings showing the project location and design, tentative construction schedules, and other information regarding the proposed project are on file and available for inspection Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the TxDOT Odessa District office 3901 E. Highway 80, Odessa, TX 79761. Project materials are also available online on this webpage.
