Purpose | The purpose of these public meetings is to present and receive public input from the communities of Parmer County, TX and Curry County, NM on the proposed construction of a bridge structure spanning the railroad crossing at the Texas and New Mexico state line. |
Description | In June 2023, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in partnership with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), presented two design alternatives to the communities of Farwell, TX and Texico, NM. The design alternatives presented were the US 60/70/84 Railroad Bridge and the US60/FM 292 Train Bypass Route. The conclusion of the previous meeting conducted in the summer provided both agencies with vital information that allowed for revisions and alterations to our design. Both agencies would like to bring these revisions back to the public to identify any other constraints that may lead to a successful design. This bridge option would eliminate the existing at-grade (surface) crossing and would allow the traveling public and communities of Farwell, TX and Texico, NM to experience continuous traffic flow without train delays. Alternative design number two (US 60 and FM 292 Train Bypass Route) that was previously presented in June 2023 has been eliminated as a feasible design. The public is encouraged to participate and provide feedback about the revisions proposed. The in-person meetings will be conducted in a public meeting format. In-person attendees will be able to review the same materials and presentation as the online pre-recorded public meeting. Staff will be available to answer questions in-person. |
Accessibility | The in-person public meetings will be conducted in English, there will be the availability for persons to utilize headsets for simultaneous Spanish translation services at both in-person meetings.
