Purpose | The purpose of the public meeting is to solicit input from the traveling public on a route study in Parmer County, Texas. |
Description | At this stage of the route study, TxDOT is displaying to the public two design options to gain insight and receive feedback on which design is most feasible to the communities in the area. Alternative design number one is a bridge spanning the existing railroad crossing on the Texas and New Mexico state line on US 60/70/84 in Parmer County, Texas and Curry County, NM. This bridge option would eliminate the existing at-grade (surface) crossing and would allow the traveling public to experience continuous traffic flow without train delays. Alternative design number two is an elevated (raised) intersection that would allow the traveling public to gain access to US 60 without the train delays currently experienced at the existing FM 292 at-grade (surface) crossing. The public is encouraged to participate and provide feedback about the study. |
Accessibility | The virtual public meeting will be conducted in English and Spanish. At both in-person public meetings, TxDOT will have staff who speak Spanish available as well as Spanish translation of documents. If you need an interpreter or document translator because English or Spanish is not your primary language or have difficulty communicating effectively in English or Spanish, one will be provided to you. If you have a disability and need assistance, special arrangements can be made to accommodate most needs. If you need interpretation or translation services or are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation to attend and participate in the public meeting, please contact, TxDOT Public Information Officer, at 806-748-4472, no later than 4 p.m., Thursday, June 1, 2023. Please be aware that advance notice is required as some services and accommodations may require time for the project team to arrange. |
Meeting materials |
At this time, the route study is currently in phase one where TxDOT is presenting to the public alternatives for consideration to determine feasible routes for the communities of Farwell, Texas and Texico, New Mexico. Right-of-way acquisition has not been decided at this phase of the project and is dependent on the conclusion of the Route Study, and funding availability. Once the results of the route study become available, and if TxDOT proceeds to the next phase of Schematic Design and Environmental, which is anticipated to take over 24 months, right-of-way agents will contact affected property owners. If you have any preliminary questions into the overall process of right-of-way acquisition or would like to view your property bill or rights, please follow one of the available links (depending on what state your property is located in). |
