Purpose | TxDOT is proposing to realign SH 144 from south of FM 56 to US 67 and construct a new bridge across the Paluxy River in Somervell County, Texas. |
Description | The proposed SH 144 realignment project is approximately 2.7-miles consisting of mostly new location roadway including a new bridge across the Paluxy River near Glen Rose, Somervell County, Texas. The main goal of the project is to improve access and mobility, reduce congestion of SH 144 and provide an alternate evacuation route by constructing a new bridge across the Paluxy River. A feasibility study was conducted in June 2020 to identify feasible alternatives and determine the viability of a second bridge crossing over the Paluxy River. From existing SH 144 to the proposed new FM 56 bridge
New bridge across existing FM 56
From proposed new FM 56 Bridge to the proposed new Paluxy River bridge
New bridge across the Paluxy River
From the new Paluxy River bridge to US 67
Intersection improvements are proposed at Existing SH 144 and CR 312. The proposed project right of way would include a grassy median (12-foot to 36-foot wide) that would accommodate the future construction of the ultimate roadway. The proposed right of way width varies between 108-foot to 571- foot-wide. The total proposed right of way acreage is estimated at 76 acres. The proposed project would, subject to final design considerations, require additional right of way and potential displacement of four (4) residential or commercial structures. The proposed project has the potential to impact the following properties protected under Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act of 1966: Possible historic structure on Van Zandt Rd close to the intersection with CR 312; and the picnic and open area at the intersection of Van Zandt Rd and CR 312. The proposed project would involve construction in wetlands and involve an action in a floodplain. |
