Purpose:

The purpose of the hearing is to present the planned improvements and solicit public comments on the proposed roadway improvements to US 80 from I-30 in Dallas County to FM 460 in Kaufman County, Texas. The hearing will be an open house format from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. with formal presentation starting at 7 p.m. Comments must be received on or before Wednesday, July 10, 2019, to be a part of the official record.

Description:

The proposed project would reconstruct and widen approximately 11 miles of US 80 to add an additional mainlane in each direction, for a total of six to eight mainlanes; frontage road reconstruction with two to three travel lanes in each direction between I-30 and Lawson Road in Dallas County; continuous one-way frontage roads with two travel lanes in each direction between Lawson Road and FM 460 in Kaufman County; and reconstruction of ramps and bridge structures. Proposed frontage road improvements would provide a 14-foot wide shared-use outside lane to accommodate vehicles and bicycles in each direction. A six-foot wide sidewalk is also proposed along the frontage roads and at cross streets where reconstruction is proposed. The proposed right of way (ROW) typically ranges from 300 to 458 feet in width and widens up to 730 feet at interchanges with major cross streets and is approximately 2,000 feet wide at the I-635 interchange. The proposed improvements would require approximately 25 acres of additional ROW and 0.2 acre of permanent easements. The proposed project would displace four businesses—two fast food restaurants, a vacant office building, and a self-storage facility building.
