US 77 Sinton Improvement Project

Notice of Availability of Final Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI)

Purpose This notice advises the public that a final environmental assessment (EA) is available for public review and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has issued a finding of no significant impact (FONSI) for the proposed improvements to US 77 from Business US Highway 77 South to Business US Highway 77 North in San Patricio County, Texas.
Description

The proposed improvements would:

  • Upgrades US 77 to interstate standards from BU 77 south to BU 77 north for approximately 5.8 miles
  • Construct continuous main lanes and frontage roads would be constructed from south of FM 1945 to BU 77 north
  • Provide for 12-foot main lanes (two in each direction) with 4-foot inside and 10-foot outside shoulders
  • Replace the at-grade intersections with grade separations
  • Construct a frontage road and overpasses
  • Reconstruct the existing ramps
  • Reconstruct the at-grade intersection of US 77 and FM 1196 as grade separated
  • Proposed frontage roads would consist of two 12-foot travel lanes with 8-foot outside and 4-foot inside shoulders
  • Proposed frontage roads would feature curb and gutter
  • Main lanes and frontage roads would be separated by grassy medians
  • Include four bridges at Chiltipin Creek (two over the main lanes and two over the frontage roads)
  • The proposed ROW would vary from 230 to 930 feet

Approximately 96.7 acres of additional ROW would be acquired on the west side of the existing roadway.

Memorandum of Understanding The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 9, 2019, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
