Virtual details The virtual construction update meeting presentation and meeting materials will be posted on this web page at the date and time listed above. Please note, this is not a live event and there is no in-person meeting opportunity.
Purpose The TxDOT Beaumont District will be conducting a virtual construction update meeting to share the approved construction details for the approximately 13-mile stretch of US 69, from FM 1943 (near Warren in Tyler County) to FM 1003 (north of Kountze in Hardin County). The pre-recorded presentation will provide information about the approved construction timelines and information about project changes. As this is an approved construction project that is letting (construction bidding) in September 2023, the district does not anticipate making any further project changes.
Description

TxDOT is providing a virtual construction update meeting to announce the final construction plans for the US 69 Corridor, Gateway to the Big Thicket segment. The purpose of the construction project is to:

  • Provide safer travel through the area
  • Improve emergency evacuation routes
  • Relieve traffic congestion caused by a growing population

Since the Final Environmental Assessment was issued, project changes include:

  • TxDOT will enhance landscaping and add signage at Village Creek in lieu of an aesthetic bridge feature due to funding.
  • TxDOT will provide a standard trail bridge in lieu of an arched trail bridge, due to rising material costs.
  • TxDOT will provide nine monuments at key locations to communicate the significance of the US 69 corridor; quantity and size of monuments have been reduced given rising material costs.
  • In keeping with the revised TxDOT Design Manual to clear obstacles in the right of way, such as landscaping, TxDOT will clear the median and portions of the right of way removing trees and shrubbery. TxDOT recommends a roadside free of unyielding obstacles including landscaping for increased safety and reduce the extent of damage and injury of single vehicle, run-off-the-road crashes.

No additional right of way is needed for any of the changes described above.

Accessibility TxDOT makes every reasonable effort to accommodate the needs of the public. The virtual construction update video presentation will be in English, if you have a special communication accommodation or need for an interpreter, a request can be made. If you have a disability and need assistance, special arrangements can also be made to accommodate most needs. Requests should be made no later than 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022, by calling 409-898-5745. Please be aware that advance notice is requested as some accommodations may require time for TxDOT to arrange.
