Description: | The proposed project would construct two variable-priced (tolled), 11-foot express lanes in each direction from SH 45N/RM 620 to MoPac for approximately 8.5 miles in the center median of US 183. A four-foot buffer would separate the express lanes from general purpose lanes. A concrete median barrier and four-foot shoulders would separate the north and southbound lanes. Transitions between the express lanes and existing roadways would extend along RM 620 for 0.9 mile west of US 183 and along MoPac for 3 miles south of US 183. The length of the proposed project, including transitions, is approximately 13 miles. Direct connectors (flyovers) would provide access to and from the express and mainlanes at SH 45N/RM 620 and MoPac. Additional access would be provided along the mainlanes and at each end of the project. The project would also build an additional non-tolled mainlane where only three currently exist. A 1,300-foot extended lane would be added at the southbound Oak Knoll general purpose lane entrance ramp. A shared use path for bicyclists and pedestrians would be constructed from Jollyville Road to Pond Springs Road and from Pond Springs Road to Lake Creek Parkway. Gaps in existing sidewalks along the frontage roads would be filled throughout the project limits. The Draft Environmental Assessment evaluated social, economic, and environmental impacts of the preferred alternative of express lanes, as well as the no-build alternative. The project is proposed, with the preferred alternative of express lanes. Although approximately eight acres of additional right of way is required, no residential or non-residential structures would be displaced. Information concerning services and benefits available to affected property owners and information about the tentative schedule for right-of-way acquisition may be obtained from: TxDOT Austin District The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated Dec. 16, 2014, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT. |
