Purpose TxDOT is conducting a schematic and environmental plan for roadway improvements along US 77 from FM 2440 to SH 21, a length of approximately eight miles. The purpose of the project is to improve safety and enhance mobility for roadway users.
Description

The proposed project would widen US 77 from an existing four-lane, undivided highway to a four-lane, divided highway with a grassy median. The improvements include replacing existing bridges at multiple locations, implementing the Reduced Conflict U-Turn (RCUT) at intersections, adding new acceleration and deceleration lanes along the corridor, and constructing a new 10-foot-wide shared-use path on the west side of US 77 from West Independence Street to Giddings High School to accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.

Although additional right-of-way would be required, no residential or nonresidential structures are anticipated to be displaced at this time. Information about services and benefits available to affected property owners, as well as the tentative schedule for right-of-way acquisition and construction, may be obtained by calling the Texas Department of Transportation district office at 512-832-7000.

Environmental documentation, maps and drawings showing project location and design, tentative construction schedules and other information about the proposed project are available for public inspection Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the TxDOT Bastrop Area Office, 174 SH 21 E., Bastrop, TX 78602. Project materials also are available on this webpage and in hard copy at the in-person public meeting.

Accessibility The in-person public meeting and virtual option will be conducted in English. Interpreter or document translation services will be provided upon request for those who have limited English proficiency or difficulty communicating effectively in English. Reasonable accommodations also may be made for persons with disabilities. To request interpretation, translation or other accommodations, contact the project consultant at 210-349-3273 no later than 4 p.m. CT, Monday, Feb. 16, 2026.
