South Padre Island Second Access Project

The Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority (CCRMA), in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), is proposing a second access point to and from South Padre Island. A secondary access route will benefit area residents and visitors by improving safety, increasing mobility, and encouraging economic development.

History

Project development started several years ago with an environmental study that included a series of public and stakeholder meetings to gather valued input and identify important community issues.

Completion of an environmental clearanceument is anticipated in fall 2014 followed by environmental clearance by fall 2015.
