RM 2244 Improvement Project

RM 2244 (Bee Cave Road) in Travis County has seen tremendous traffic growth, leading to heavy congestion. TxDOT, in cooperation with municipal leaders in West Lake Hills, is performing improvements along a three-mile stretch of Bee Cave Road between Redbud Trail and Walsh Tarlton Lane in an effort to improve mobility and safety along this roadway.

Planned improvements

The existing Bee Cave Road was built in 1956. Currently, the average daily traffic on Bee Cave Road is around 25,000 vehicles but is expected to grow to 33,400 in the next 10 years.

The improvement project includes constructing a center turn lane between Redbud Trail and Walsh Tarlton Lane, as well as adding shoulders and sidewalks within the project limits. The conversion of the existing four-lane roadway into a five-lane roadway will ultimately enhance both safety and mobility for all area travelers.

The contractor for the $29 million project is Aaron Concrete Contractors. Construction is expected to begin in November 2016 and is anticipated to be complete in summer 2019.

Construction phases

The construction is being phased to maintain four lanes of traffic (two in each direction) for most of the time; however, some lane closures will be necessary.

The majority of lane closures will take place during night and weekend hours. In addition, left turns not at signalized intersections have been temporarily restricted to lessen the impact on the community due to traffic trying to avoid construction.
