Where:

Virtual Public Meeting
*This will be a virtual public meeting via a pre-recorded video presentation
(no in-person public meeting)

When:

Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, by 10 a.m.
The pre-recorded presentation video will be available for comment by 10 a.m. A video will be posted near the bottom of this web page, by that time.

Purpose:

The TxDOT Lufkin District is proposing the widening of US 259 from SH 204 to Rusk County line in Nacogdoches County, Texas. The virtual public meeting will consist of a pre-recorded video presentation explaining the proposed project, which includes both audio and video components, along with other exhibits and materials for review. Formal comments may be provided by mail, email, or online by Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020.

Description:

The seven-mile-long project would include:

  • Two 12-foot northbound travel lanes and two 12-foot southbound travel lanes
  • 10-foot outside shoulders
  • 16-foot continuous two-way left-turn lane separating northbound and southbound travel lanes
  • Widening the existing right of way by an average of 32-feet

The proposed project would, subject to final design considerations, require additional right of way and potentially displace zero residences and one non-residential structure.

Share your input: The Lufkin District is also offering an online survey to encourage public input, and is available in both English and Español. We encourage the public to take the surveys on the project page by Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020.

Special Accommodations:

The virtual public meeting will be conducted in English and Spanish. If you need an interpreter or document translator because English or Spanish is not your primary language or you have difficulty communicating effectively in English, one will be provided to you. If you have a disability and need assistance, special arrangements can be made to accommodate most needs. If you need interpretation or translation services or you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation to attend and participate in the virtual public meeting, please contact Rhonda Oaks, at 936-633-4395 no later than 4 p.m. CT, Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020. Please be aware that advance notice is required as some services and accommodations may require time for the Texas Department of Transportation to arrange.

Memorandum of Understanding:

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried-out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 9, 2019, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
