The Texas Department of Transportation has modified the vegetation data from the Ecological Mapping Systems of Texas for contractors using geographic information systems (GIS) to plan, build and manage roadways.

TxDOT added layers to the vegetation data developed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. This information includes the vegetation present in the roadway network, including expected widths of road surfaces (including shoulders), right of way and medians.
