Seaport Connectivity Program
(Formerly Port Access Improvement Program)
In 2015, the Texas Legislature included $20 million in the General Appropriations Act to fund projects on public roadways that would improve connectivity to Texas maritime ports. The legislature approved $20 million per year of the biennium in additional funds in each subsequent state budget for a total of $180 million.
TxDOT distributes these funds through the Seaport Connectivity Program (formerly Port Access Improvement Program), which provides grants to ports and other entities for projects that will improve connectivity, enhance safety, and relieve congestion in communities around the state’s maritime ports.
To date, TxDOT has funded 66 projects along the coast that have improved and widened “last mile” roads leading to ports, added truck queuing lanes in high-traffic areas, improved signage and gates at rail crossings, and upgraded busy intersections.
