TxDOT hosting child car seat checkup events next week

Checkup events part of child safety campaign

LUBBOCK –The Texas Department of Transportation, along with their safety education partners, is hosting two car seat checkup events in the Lubbock area next week. Parents needing help installing their child’s car seat can stop by to see us on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Covenant Pediatric Helicopter “Kite Flite” or Saturday, Sept. 27, at UMC I-27 Medical Center.

Event details are:

Tuesday, September 23
Covenant Pediatric Helicopter “Kite Flite”
12111 County Road 2500
4 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Saturday, September 27
UMC I-27 Medical Center
4105 I-27 (corner of I-27 and 42nd Street)
10 a.m. – noon

Certified car seat technicians will be on-site to teach parents and caregivers how to determine if their child is in the right seat for the child’s age and size. Parents are asked to know their child’s height and weight and should bring their current safety seat for proper installation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that nationwide, 46% of all car seats are misused. To avoid one of the most common mistakes caregivers make – using the wrong size safety seat—visit TxDOT’s Save Me With A Seat website to find the appropriate safety seat for your child’s age.
