Paving operations scheduled for US 62 near Idalou

Drivers can anticipate extended lane closures

LUBBOCK – TxDOT's Northeast Lubbock County Maintenance crew is scheduled to make road repairs to US 62, east of Idalou, starting next week. Operations to mill and resurface a segment of US 62, from FM 400 to the Idalou cemetery, is scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 11.

However, lane closures will begin on Friday, Aug. 8, and drivers traveling through the work zone can expect the westbound lanes reduced to one lane of traffic in preparation of the work starting on Monday.

Other various extended (daytime and nighttime) lane closures will continue throughout the duration of the resurfacing work for both west- and eastbound traffic. Work is scheduled to be completed by Friday, Aug. 22.

Motorists are urged to use caution when driving through the work zone since crews will be working in close proximity to traffic, and should keep the following tips in mind:

  • Slow down and always follow posted work zone speed limits. Speeding is one of the major causes of work zone crashes. Remember, traffic fines double in work zones.
  • Pay attention. Workers and heavy equipment may only be a few feet from passing vehicles.
  • Be patient. Delays from roadway construction can be frustrating, but it only takes a few extra minutes to slow down for a work zone.

Work will take place weather permitting.
