The Pelican Island Bridge in Galveston County set for repairs to begin on June 15

GALVESTON – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Galveston County Navigation District No. 1 have set the schedule for the first part of the permanent repairs to the Pelican Island Bridge following a barge incident last month. Crews will begin work on Saturday, June 15 and the repairs are anticipated to be completed on Monday, June 17

During the times the repairs are being conducted, traffic will only be allowed to travel onto the bridge during designated times. During the days of the repairs, Saturday, June 15 through Monday, June 17, traffic will be allowed to travel across the bridge at the following times:

Saturday, June 15 6 - 8 a.m. 6 -8 p.m.
Sunday, June 16 6 - 8 a.m. 3 - 6 p.m.
Monday, June 17 6 - 8 a.m. 3 - 6 p.m.

The repairs are necessary to improve the condition of the bridge following an incident that occurred last month when the bridge was struck by a barge. Crews originally performed a temporary repair shortly after the bridge was damaged with the goal of getting back open to minimize impacts to the businesses and residents on Pelican Island. Additional repairs will be necessary and will be scheduled at a later time.
