I-10 White Oak Bayou project phase 1, step 4B traffic shift scheduled for next week; motorists should expect delays

As part of ongoing construction for the I-10 White Oak Bayou elevation project, TxDOT crews will implement a traffic switch next week. In preparation for the upcoming traffic shift of Phase 1, Step 4B of the project, several closures are scheduled beginning 9:00 P.M. Tue., April 7 through 5:00 A.M. Thurs., April 9.

To safely accommodate this significant milestone, the Taylor Street exit ramp will be temporarily closed from Tue. night, April 7, through Thurs. morning, April 9.

As part of this switch, westbound mainlane traffic will be shifted onto the newly constructed bridge. In addition, the new westbound entrance ramp from Taylor Street is scheduled to open on Thursday morning, April 9, improving access and traffic flow in the area.

Total closure of I-10 westbound exit ramp To Taylor St. beginning at 9:00 PM, Tue., April 7 through 5:00 AM, Thurs., April 9.

  • Motorists will exit at the next ramp to Patterson St, then perform a U-turn at the intersection. Continue along the eastbound frontage road to reach Taylor St.

One alternate lane of the I-10 westbound from Heights Blvd to N. Main St, beginning 9:00 PM, Wed., April 8 to 5:00 AM, Thurs., April 9.

Total closure of I-10 westbound entrance ramp from Louisiana St.

  • Motorists traveling from Louisiana Street intending to access the I-10 westbound mainlanes perform a right turn at Franklin St and perform a left turn at Travis St to merge onto I-45 northbound and follow the detour to access I-10 westbound mainlanes.

Total closure of the I-45 northbound connector ramp to I-10 Katy beginning at 9:00 PM, Wed., April 8 until 5:00 AM, Thurs., April 9.

  • Motorists traveling on I-45 northbound who need to access the I-10 westbound mainlanes must continue on I-45 North and use the connector ramp to I-610 West. From I-610, use the connector ramp to I-10 to access either the I-10 eastbound or westbound mainlanes.

This $400 million project will raise the elevation of the I-10 mainlanes above the floodplain of White Oak Bayou from Heights Boulevard to I-45 including the reconstruction of the I-10 HOV lanes, and reconstruction of the Houston Avenue Bridge.

While we will continue to make outstanding progress as this project continues, during construction, drivers are advised to follow posted detour signs and remain vigilant of changing traffic patterns. Patience and caution will be essential to ensure safety as construction advances.

Also be sure to visit the project website. For additional closures and detour information, visit Houston TranStar and follow TxDOT Houston on X, Facebook, Instagram and Threads for roadway updates and information. Closures are subject to change due to weather.
