I-30 westbound traffic pattern in Texarkana to change night of Tuesday, April 29
ATLANTA – Travelers on Interstate 30 westbound in Texarkana will see a new traffic pattern this week as the project to widen the interstate from four to six lanes progresses, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
Tuesday, April 29 at 8 p.m., crews will work to set up the new traffic pattern. This includes moving westbound traffic in the left lane onto the new pavement. The left lane will also be designated as a thru lane (now to be referred to as the left-thru lane) for the entire six miles of the project through Texarkana. The left-thru lane will start just east of Summerhill Road and extend to west of Kings Highway and will have no option to exit.
The right lane will be designated for local traffic (now to be referred to as the right-local lane) and will continue to use the existing westbound right interstate main lane. This phase will also include nightly ramp work from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. During these nighttime hours, westbound right-local lane traffic will be detoured to the frontage road. During the day, westbound right-local lane traffic will remain on the existing westbound right interstate main lane.
More information on the I-30 widening project can be found on TxDOT.gov.
TxDOT urges Texans to slow down, stay alert and obey posted signage when driving through road construction or maintenance areas. TxDOT’s “Be Safe. Drive Smart.” campaign offers safe driving tips for navigating work zones:
- Slow down. Follow the posted speed limit and never drive faster than what is safe for road conditions. Excessive speed is a leading cause of work zone crashes.
- Pay attention. Avoid distractions, keep your mind on the road and put your phone away.
- Watch out for road crews. Roadside workers want to get home safely too. Always follow instructions and be mindful of construction area road signs.
- Don’t tailgate. Traffic in work zones can slow suddenly so give yourself room to stop in a hurry. Rear-end collisions are the most common type of work zone crashes.
- Allow extra time. Road construction can slow things down. Count on it, and plan for it.
