The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is subject to periodic review under the Texas Sunset Act by the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission. In the 85th Texas Legislature (2017) enacted Senate Bill 312, continuing TxDOT through September 1, 2029, and implementing changes to transportation planning, project delivery, contract management, and public accountability.
TxDOT’s next Sunset review is scheduled for the 2028–2029 cycle and will provide an opportunity to evaluate the agency’s programs, operations, and statutory authority while identifying potential improvements to better serve the traveling public.
