Interim Director of Communications and Public Affairs

Raquelle Lewis serves as Interim Director of Communications and Public Affairs.

She is responsible for the coordination of TxDOT's overall communication strategy, overseeing and directing the Communications and Travel Information divisions.

Lewis serves as the chief communications officer, leading teams in internal and external communication, media relations, public information, audio visual production, and Texas tourism communications. She dually serves as the Southeast Texas Region Communications/Public Information Offices Director, and is the principal PIO for the Houston District.

In 2015, Lewis served as a Special Advisor to the Executive Administration during the 84th Texas Legislative Session, for which Governor Abbott declared transportation funding a top priority. She worked closely with TxDOT executive leadership and the Texas Transportation Commission to analyze, strategize and convey legislative priorities.

She has more than twenty years of experience in the transportation industry in the public and private sectors and has received numerous professional accolades, including the TxDOT Raymond E. Stozter Award, the Houston Chapter of Women in Transportation Woman of the Year Award, Honorable Mention for the Outstanding Women in Texas Government Award, and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Public Relations Professional of the Year Award.

Lewis is a graduate of Leadership Texas and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is a proud alumnus of the University of Texas at Austin and attended graduate school at Texas Southern University.
