I-10 from CR 250 to FM 2434

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Yoakum District, is proposing to reconstruct and widen Interstate 10 from 0.57-mile west of County Road (CR) 250 to 0.15-mile east of Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 2434 in Colorado County, Texas. The total distance is approximately 12 miles.

The proposed project would reconstruct and widen the existing four lane I-10 roadway to six lanes. Additionally, existing two-way frontage roads would be converted to one-way frontage roads to enhance capacity and improve safety. 80 acres of new right-of-way (ROW) would be required, and twelve non-residential structures would potentially be displaced.

The current conditions of I-10 within the limits of the project consist of two main lanes in each direction and two-way frontage roads.

Project background

The purpose of the proposed project is to meet regional and local future travel demands by increasing capacity, improving the safety of the roadway by correcting design deficiencies and upgrading the facility to meet current design standards and providing a hurricane evacuation route.

Proposed improvements

  • Typical right-of-way varies (320—1,375 feet); average 400 feet
  • Widen from a four-lane roadway to a six-lane roadway
  • Convert two-way frontage roads to one-way (2 lanes)
  • Add one-way frontage road between CR 250 and FM 155
  • Extend frontage roads from west of rest area to FM 2434
  • Improve access and safety at intersections: CR 250, FM 155, CR 220, CR 210, CR 213, Hattermann Lane, and FM 2434
  • Add exit and entrance ramps in each direction at CR 210 (Borden)
  • A new location connection to US 90 is proposed west of the rest areas.
  • I-10 mainlanes will pass over FM 155 and Hattermann Lane
