Project overview

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Tyler District is developing plans for operational and intersection improvements along South Broadway Avenue, from South Town Drive to FM 2813 in Smith County. The proposed project would include adding auxiliary lanes, turn-lanes, raised medians, and increasing storage capacities at intersections along the corridor. Proposed improvements also include upgraded pedestrian and bicycle accommodations.

Project need

US 69 (South Broadway Avenue) in Tyler is Texas’ 47th-most congested roadway (TTI, 2022) – Ranked between I-35 in Waco and I-35E in Dallas.

Details

Enhancements include:

  • Introducing raised medians to reduce vehicle conflict points and improve traffic flow
  • Connecting new bicycle and pedestrian facilities
  • No new right of way (ROW) required
